This study investigates the neurobiolo<\/span>gi<\/span>cal mechanisms underlying opioid addiction in females by examining the role of brain-derived neurotrophic <\/span>fa<\/span>ctor (BDNF) in the extinction of drug-seeking behaviors. Using a morphine-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) model, we previously found that females who extinguished drug-seeking behaviors <\/span>exhibited<\/span> increased BDNF expression in the hippocampus (HPC), while the amyg<\/span>da<\/span>la (AMY) remained unch<\/span>ange<\/span>d. Expanding on this work, we now assess BDNF expression in the ventral striatum\/nucleus <\/span>accumbens<\/span> (VS\/<\/span>NAc<\/span>) and medial prefrontal cortex (<\/span>mPFC<\/span>), alongside estrous cycle monitoring. Our results show increased BDNF expression in the VS\/<\/span>NAc<\/span> in animals that extinguished CPP, consistent with prior HPC findings. The <\/span>mPFC<\/span> showed no significant ch<\/span>ange<\/span>s. Preliminary <\/span>da<\/span>ta suggest that females in the extinction group were in the estrous stage, <\/span>indicating<\/span> a potential link between extinction processes, BDNF expression, and hormonal fluctuations.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
