On November 5, 2020, Dr. Luis Ferrao, the rector of the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, congratulated Dr. Carmen Maldonado-Vlaar for receiving the Bernice Grafstein Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Mentoring this year.
